This Privacy Policy explains how railstatus.live (“we”, “us”, the “Service”) collects, uses, and protects information when you use our website to check train running status and PNR status. By using the Service, you agree to this policy.
1. Who we are
railstatus.live is an independent, free information service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Indian Railways, IRCTC, CRIS, or any government body. Train and PNR information is retrieved in real time from publicly accessible Indian Railways enquiry systems.
2. Information we collect
- Usage analytics (first-party). To count visitors and measure how many people are using the site live, we store a random, anonymous identifier in your browser (via
localStorage) and record the pages you view and timestamps. This identifier is not linked to your name or any personal account. - Google Analytics. We use Google Analytics (measurement ID
G-FV9MTQX0F9), which sets cookies and may collect your approximate location (derived from IP), device and browser type, and pages visited. See Google's Privacy Policy. - PNR lookups. When you check a PNR, the 10-digit PNR number and the CAPTCHA answer you enter are sent to our server only to fetch that booking's status from Indian Railways in real time. We do not store your PNR number or the results on our servers.
- Technical/server data. Like most websites, our hosting and our CDN/security provider (Cloudflare) automatically process basic technical information such as IP address, user-agent, and request time for delivery, security, and abuse prevention.
- Advertising. If we display third-party advertisements, those providers may set their own cookies (see “Advertising” below).
We do not require you to create an account, and we do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information.
3. How we use information
- To operate, maintain, and improve the Service;
- To measure traffic and the number of active/live visitors;
- To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, abuse, and excessive automated use;
- To display advertising that helps keep the Service free.
4. Cookies and local storage
We and our providers use cookies and browser storage for: (a) anonymous analytics; (b) an admin login session (used only by the site administrator); and (c) advertising, where applicable. You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of Google Analytics using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. Blocking storage may affect some features.
5. Advertising
We may show third-party ads, which may include Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites. 6. Third parties we rely on
- Google Analytics (and, if enabled, Google AdSense) — analytics and advertising;
- Cloudflare — content delivery and security;
- Our hosting provider — running the Service;
- Indian Railways enquiry systems — the source of the train and PNR data displayed.
7. Data retention
Aggregate, anonymous usage statistics (such as daily view counts) are retained to understand trends. PNR numbers and lookup results are processed transiently and are not stored by us. Google retains analytics/ads data per its own policies.
8. Security
The Service is served over HTTPS. We take reasonable measures to protect information, but no method of transmission or storage over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
The Service is a general-audience information tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
10. Your choices & rights
You can clear your browser storage and cookies at any time, opt out of analytics and personalised ads as described above, and stop using the Service. Depending on your location, you may have rights to access or request deletion of personal data; because we do not maintain user accounts or store PNR data, the information we hold about an individual is limited.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted on this page, and the “Last updated” date will be revised.
